Voltage Unbalance Compensation in Distribution Feeders Using Soft Open Points

نویسندگان

چکیده

Soft open points (SOPs) are power electronic devices that may replace conventional normally-open in distribution networks. They can be used for active flow control, reactive compensation, fault isolation, and service restoration through network reconfiguration with enhanced operation flexibility grid resiliency. Due to unbalanced loading conditions, the voltage unbalance issue, as a common problem networks, has negative impacts on operation. In this paper, control strategy of compensation feeders using SOPs is proposed. With three-phase current regulated simultaneously mitigate between neighboring where installed. Feeder among three phases compensated injection negative-sequence zero-sequence from SOPs. Especially response outages, isolated loads balanced by connected under faults, even if unbalanced. A MATLAB/Simulink model IEEE 13-bus test feeder an SOP across ends implemented, experimental tests hardware-in-the-loop platform implemented validate effectiveness proposed strategy.

Optimal operation of soft open points in medium voltage electrical distribution networks with distributed generation

A soft open point (SOP) is a power electronic device, usually using back-to-back voltage source converters (VSCs), installed at a previously normally open point of a distribution network. Due to its flexible and accurate control of power flows, an SOP is versatile, and increasingly being considered to mitigate voltage and thermal constraints in medium voltage (MV) networks with high penetration...

Secondary Control for Voltage Unbalance Compensation in an Islanded Microgrid

In this paper, the concept of secondary control is applied for voltage unbalance compensation in an islanded microgrid. The aim of the proposed control approach is to enhance the voltage quality at the point of common coupling (PCC). Unbalance compensation is achieved by proper control of distributed generators (DGs). The DGs control structure mainly consists of active and reactive power contro...

A New Control Strategy for Voltage Restoration and Voltage Unbalance Compensation in an Islanded Droop-Controlled Microgrid

Low voltage microgrids including sensitive loads often face unbalanced load conditions. Therefore, a compensation procedure should be carried out in order to balance and restore sensitive load’s voltage. In this paper, an effective voltage control strategy has been proposed for the autonomous operation of microgrids, under unbalanced load conditions.  The proposed strategy balances single-phase...

Fuel Cell Connection Inverters used for Unbalance Compensation in Low Voltage Distribution Systems

The aim of this paper is to evaluate the benefits that can be achieved by operating the connection inverters of the distributed energy resources as active power filters in LV distribution networks. The use of the future fuel cell inverters to compensate zero sequence currents, arising from unbalances among phases, can improve the efficiency of the distribution networks by means of reducing the ...

Smart Inverter Voltage Control on Distribution Feeders

Smart inverters are studied in both the dynamic/transient and steady state in a simulation environment. Using EPRI OpenDSS, five real California feeders are simulated over a 95 day period while the PV penetration and smart inverter fraction are varied. From the simulations, it is shown that smart inverters operating under different Volt/VAr based control schemes improve feeder conditions. The i...
